Everton of Bridgetown Barbados

Whilst researching the famous name of Everton around the world, I discovered that there was a very successful team in Barbados which lasted into the latter part of the 20th century. The Barbados Football Association (BFA) was founded in 1910 and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010. Originally named the Barbados Amateur Football Association, that name was changed in 1925. The Everton FC of Barbados was founded/established in 1935 in Greater Bridgetown, the club was relatively successful locally and regionally in both league and cup. The year 1878 not only saw the foundation of the football team that would become Everton FC but, in October of that year, the first experiments in playing artificially-illuminated matches. At Sheffield United’s Bramhall Lane ground, dynamo-powered lamps were mounted on timber gantries to provide the light for a match contested by teams made up of representatives from local clubs. KitAid, founded in 1998, donates used and new (surplus) shirts to teams in various parts of the world Kit Aid shirts in Malawi Everton's links to KitAid date back to 2014 with the passing of John Mulcahy, a lifelong Blue, at the age of 47. John's parents kindly gifted his collection of 23 Everton shirts to KitAid (www.kitaid.net). ‘King’ Charles: Everton (Trinidad and Tobago)

Alfred Charles (Southampton Strip) Alfred Pious Charles was born in Trinidad & Tobago, 11 July 1909. He received his prestigious royal nickname from a 1931 match report when in 1931 the Touring Trinidad & Tobago national team played British Guiana: ‘Playing at centre-half. The EFC Heritage Society and The Ruleteros Society are still collecting foreign currency in support of the Former Players  Foundations of the United Kingdom and Chile. We have had former players come and support us and some fans have already donated at St Lukes church before every home game. Thank you to all those who have helped so far. We are also collecting kits for KitAid, which can be deposited at St Luke’s church as well.
