The first in a series of three films featuring the legacy of ‘Dr Everton.’
In a pastiche of the famous radio programme broadcast since 1942, where guests pick eight pieces of music, a book, and a luxury item to take to a desert island; Dr David France OBE has selected ten items of Evertonia, mostly from The Everton Collection, plus a book, and just one piece of music, to take to his island amid a sea of blue.

The David France Collection was put together over several decades, and it is a unique collection of artefacts, letters, medals and other ephemera. The depth of the collection is absolutely staggering; some of the 10,000 paper artefacts pre-date the formation of the Football League, and stretch back to our days at Stanley Park, Priory Road and Anfield, but each item is special in its own right. Christie’s and Sotheby’s proclaimed that it is the finest and most complete collection of memorabilia relating to one club, and that it is worthy of the British Museum in London, and the Smithsonian in Washington, DC.
Dr France’s story of how it was put together is documented in Dr Everton’s Magnificent Obsession written with EFCHS member and former Liverpool Echo Head of Sport, David Prentice, and is a thoroughly fascinating read.
In early 2025, Dr France met up once more with David, (who is now PR Manager (Football Media) of Everton FC), in the hallowed surroundings of the Liverpool City Council Chamber within the Town Hall, to talk about his ‘Desert Island Memorabilia.’ (Click image below for full film)
