Guest interview – Derek Mountfield

Derek Mountfield was a mainstay in the Everton defence throughout the glory years of the eighties. Born in Tuebrook to an Evertonian family, Mountfield spent his early years standing on the Gwladys Street cheering on his beloved Toffees. Derek was picked up by Tranmere Rovers as a teenager, before Kendall brought him to Bellefield in 1983. As the Blues centre-half, he won the FA Cup in his first season, before lifting two First Division League titles, two Charity Shields, and won the European Cup Winners Cup. He remains a passionate Evertonian despite going on to play for various other clubs including Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
