The year 1878 not only saw the foundation of the football team that would become Everton FC but, in October of that year, the first experiments in playing artificially-illuminated matches. At Sheffield United’s Bramhall Lane ground, dynamo-powered lamps were mounted on timber gantries to provide the light for a match contested by teams made up of representatives from local clubs. KitAid, founded in 1998, donates used and new (surplus) shirts to teams in various parts of the world Kit Aid shirts in Malawi Everton's links to KitAid date back to 2014 with the passing of John Mulcahy, a lifelong Blue, at the age of 47. John's parents kindly gifted his collection of 23 Everton shirts to KitAid (www.kitaid.net). This charity, founded in 1998, donates used and new (surplus) shirts to teams in various parts of the world - each year recycling approximately 15 tonnes of unwanted kit which would otherwise might have gone to landfill. Alfred Charles (Southampton Strip) Alfred Pious Charles was born in Trinidad & Tobago, 11 July 1909. He received his prestigious royal nickname from a 1931 match report when in 1931 the Touring Trinidad & Tobago national team played British Guiana: ‘Playing at centre-half. Whitechapel Donations

Paul Kelly is pictured above at the Whitechapel Centre when we delivered the winter wear and toiletries donated by staff at Everton Football Club , Everton in the Community, staff at Essar Oil  Stanlow,  and Everton Heritage Society. The Society has been collecting since the turn of the year, with winter clothing and toiletries acculminating in five large boxes and twelve bin bags being delivered today. Former Everton players Ronnie Goodlass and Pat van den Hauwe have also supported KitAid and the Whitechapel Centre with personal donations. Everton legend Derek Temple was finally been presented with a League title medal, 53 years after helping the Blues lift the trophy.
