Guest interview – Dr David France OBE
As well as travelling over two million miles to follow Everton from his home in North America, Widnes born Dr David France OBE is an author, football historian, and philanthropist. He has pioneered the introduction of a series of successful Everton initiatives; he is possibly best known for The Everton Collection, now in trust in Liverpool Record Office; he was the driving force behind the Former Players Foundation (the first of its kind in the football world); and he founded the Gwlady’s Street Hall of Fame. He is a lifetime president of the Everton Shareholders Association, which, with David and wife Elizabeth, the War Memorial plaques were ensured a fitting home at Goodison Park. He has authored nineteen Everton books, with a major project nearing completion.
In January 2011, Liverpool’s Freedom of the City panel awarded Dr France the prestigious title of Citizen of Honour, and the following year he was made an OBE in the 2012 New Year’s Honours list for services to football in the United Kingdom and Europe.
And of course, he is also the founder of The Everton FC Heritage Society and our Life President.
